but my annual Studio Sale will be happening over the next 2 weeks

to shift old stock, prototypes and work that may just not of worked

so I get some space  back to play with whales and other new ideas

that I have swimming around my already crowded head!

Cow Parsley

Well yesterday I had a lovely day off! I know I am getting good at them aren't I well a trip to see the newly opened Giuseppe Penone who I wrote about in my dissertation nigh on 20 odd years ago it was good to see his work in the flesh all together in this rather fabulous exhibition.

sorry its been a while

I have been busy well and a bit ill but that's the norm these day with my psoriatic arthritis

Well I can't believe I have neglected my blog for so long I do apologise. I'd say it was fraught after a number of weeks off after dropping a plinth (yes again) on my foot this time really badly and the hospital could not believe it wasn't broken they even took another xray as the guy said I made such a good effort it deserved it! Anyway lets start as we mean to go on and sort out some workshops then we may just be looking at a studio sale up to 50% off some pieces so I can clear out some work to have space to create more.

Moon gazing hares in stoneware

Come and have a play in stoneware to create your own mini hare. In this workshop you will learn basic modelling techniques in clay with underglaze, slips and oxides for decoration.

Porcelain Tiles

2-4.30pm

Tiles impressed natural objects in porcelain using natural material such as grasses, flowers and leaves.

You will create a set of four tiles that can be used as coasters or wall plaques, door numbers etc using colour and oxide to bring them to life.

Birds hand built in stoneware

Come and have a play in stoneware to create your own bluetit or robin. In this workshop you will learn to make thumb pots and use basic modelling techniques in clay with underglaze, slips and oxides for decoration.

A six week workshop programme of evening classes in handbuilding and decorating techniques can be arranged with 4+ participants from £105 per person

All workshops are held in the workshop room at Higherford Mill

Bring an apron, enthusiasm and you will be able to achieve with step by step tuition some amazing creations. Go on have a go and get creative. Refreshments offered on arrival whilst going through housekeeping & health & safety for each workshop.

Pet portrait commissions

So I have launched a pet portrait strand to the business with the first few coming through Facebook and Instagram. Here's the latest efforts to capture Molly the Springer for a lovely lady I have worked for previously.

So I work from photographs to create, with your help, your pet I have mainly having a go at dog as I am a little obsessed and will always speak to them when passing and not always the owner oops.

I ask for a deposit of £75 via paypal or bacs and I will keep you updated closely via email with updates of progress so you can change and alter things together. It will not be a photographic likeness but hopefully capture their spirit and am not opposed to props including crowns, tiaras for divas or whatever you feel will reflect their personalities.

We start price wise with £225 for approx 12cms high, in clay, upwards.

Timescales are usually 4-6weeks depending on the time of year as Christmas I would need a bit longer. 

There will be a delivery cost if the piece can not be picked up or delivered by hand locally.

All works can be couriered with costs paid by the commissioner. 

All we need are a number of photographs emailed to info@juliemiles.co.uk and I will confirm timescales and request deposit by return email. 

I think that's it I will probably edit and correct things as we go a long but at least it's out there and I can get started on two lovely dogs and a rhino!
